String that won’t feed despite repeated tapping may indicate a jammed bump-feed mechanism, blocked eyelets, or a worn spool that no longer engages properly. In other cases, the problem is simply old line that has lost flexibility and won’t feed smoothly.
Removing and Replacing Damaged String

After winding, secure the line by inserting each end into its respective eyelet and leaving 6 to 12 inches protruding. Some spools have small notches or hooks designed to hold the line ends temporarily during reassembly. If your spool has these, use them. If not, hold the line ends firmly as you reassemble to prevent them from unwinding.
Avoid overfilling the spool, as this prevents the spool from rotating freely and can jam the feed mechanism. The line should fit snugly without touching the sides of the head housing.
