Problems you may still see after a home job
If the mower still tears grass after backlapping, the usual leftovers are remaining dull spots, uneven reel-to-bedknife contact, leftover compound, a height-of-cut or turf issue, or damage that needed grinding. Clean again, recheck paper shear left-to-right, and only then consider one more cautious lap. If the tear sits on a deep nick, stop.
If the reel now feels tight, noisy, or hard to push, you are probably over-tight, still gritty with compound, or hanging on a nick that scrapes instead of shears. Clean thoroughly and ease contact back to a light kiss.
If only one side of the cut looks clean, the adjusters may be uneven, or one end of the reel may be high, low, or bent. Readjust both sides in small, matching steps and recheck contact across the width. An end that never meets is not a filing problem.
